There is no one-size volunteer role at Open Door. People give what they have — and we're not asking for a long-term commitment before you know if this is the right fit.
Bring a Meal
We serve a family-style meal every Monday and Wednesday before classes begin. If you can cook, bake, or organize a meal drop-off, you are immediately valuable here.
Teach or Facilitate
Our volunteer leaders include retired schoolteachers, social workers, nurses, business professionals, and preachers. Parenting, financial literacy, job skills, grief, trauma, anger — we'd love to talk.
Mentor
We're building a mentor program where someone commits to one person in recovery — a consistent, trustworthy presence for encouragement and good counsel on hard days. This role changes lives.
Pray
We believe deeply that prayer is not a passive act. If you can commit to praying consistently for the people and the work of Open Door, contact us — we'll put you on our prayer team.
Serve On-Site
Set up chairs. Help with childcare during Monday classes. Welcome people at the door. These small acts of hospitality matter enormously to people who've felt unwelcome everywhere else.
Monthly In-Service Training
Our volunteer team receives ongoing training every month. You will not be thrown in without support — whatever role you take on, we walk with you.
What to Expect
You don't need a theology degree.
You don't need a clean past. You need a willing heart and the consistency to show up. We ask three things of everyone who serves with us:
- A willing heart to grow
- Faithfulness to attend
- A commitment to the people in front of you

Not everyone can give time. Life is full, schedules are complicated, and not every willing heart is in a season where showing up on a weeknight is possible. If that's you, there is still something meaningful you can do.
Keep the Doors Open
Free to them is not free to run.
Every program we offer is free — that's a commitment we made to the people we serve, because cost should never be the reason someone doesn't get help. Meals cost money. Classroom materials cost money. Utilities, maintenance, and the resources behind 9 active programs across two locations cost money. We've kept these programs free since 2022 because of people who gave. Every dollar stays local — every dollar goes to work in Hardin County.
Covers the cost of one family meal for a Monday evening.
Helps keep the lights on and the building open for a week of programming.
Helps us expand services and reach more people who have nowhere else to turn.
Why monthly giving matters
One-time gifts are a blessing. But monthly giving is what allows us to plan, grow, and say yes to the next person who walks through the door.
When you give monthly, you become part of the reason someone's life changes. Not once — every month.
